Configuring a New Engine

Before a Ctrl Engine can be used to start running workspaces it needs to be configured on a computer. Until this point it will not be discoverable on the local network.

We recommend setting the device to a static IP. - See the hardware setup guide for more information.

  • Open Ctrl Engine Manager.
  • Check that your engine is running, then select Admin.
  • This opens a new web browser window to configure Engine.

It's likely that this browser page will initially show a security warning due to Ctrl Engines web interface using a self-signed SSL certificate for HTTPS. There is nothing to worry about here; Ctrl uses the encryption element of HTTPS to encrypt messages between Engine and your web interface in the local network vs raw HTTP.

  • Navigate to Advanced > Proceed to 127.0.0.1 (unsafe).

Engine Setup

After trusting the browser, you will be presented with the login page.

When logging in for the first time, enter:

User: engine Password: setup

EULA

The first step is to agree to read Ctrl Suite's End User License Agreement on the hardware you are using it on.

Basic Settings

  • Engine Name - Give your engine instance a unique name to make it recognisable. It must be six characters or more.
  • Engine Location (optional) - Let your technicians know where the engine instance is located.
  • Default Theme - Select the default theme for the Engine UI for all new users (either light/dark mode).
  • Default Language - Select the default language for the Engine UI for all new users.
  • Telemetry - By enabling telemetry, you are allowing ON LX Limited to collect anonymised data on your engine instance for diagnostics and development in line with our Privacy & Data Protection Policy.

Configure Admin

Super Admin accounts have the highest level of user privilege within Ctrl Engine.

Note: being an Engine Admin or engine Super Admin does not give the user Admin access to interfaces running on a Ctrl Player workspace.

  • Username - Give your Super Admin account an uncommon username to improve security.
  • Email Address - Provide an email address to receive important alerts from Ctrl Engine.
  • Password - Your password must be at least seven characters in length and use both uppercase and lowercase letters & symbols.

Add Users

Use this view to add more users to manage, edit or view the Ctrl Engine.

  • Viewer - Can view the Engine status and Workspaces.
  • Editor - Can edit and manage workspaces on the Engine.
  • Admin - Can manage the Engine and all workspaces.

Further granular permissions can be defined after activation.

Activate Engine

For an Engine to be able to run a workspace, it needs a license.

The setup process’s final step is adding a license to Ctrl.

This can be done by applying for an existing license from your account to Ctrl Engine (Internet access required).

Alternatively, you can skip license activation and assign a license later.

Note: outputs will be disabled until a valid Ctrl Engine license is activated.

After completion, log into the Ctrl Engine admin web interface to use it.

Engine will now be discoverable on your local network from within Ctrl Designer.
