Do I need to provide additional hardware or can Ctrl Suite run on my existing media server computer?

Ctrl Designer, Engine & Player can all be run on the same computer alongside other 3rd party software or split onto separate machines connected on a network network to improve versatility and reduce the load on any individual computer.

You can even run Ctrl Player & Ctrl Engine on the same Windows tablet for an all-in-one control solution.

Typically, you’ll use a laptop to run Ctrl Designer to create your workspace and sync it with a machine permanently installed in a control rack or similar fixed location on the network.

  • Navigate to the Ctrl Suite Tech Specs page page for more information about supported operating systems.

Always bear in mind to factor in the requirements of other software applications you plan to run on the same computer. Likewise, if you’re only planning on using Ctrl to host a couple of lightweight interfaces that will only send a few commands with very little logic and no streaming data, you can likely get away with running it on a low powered computer.

If you have the opportunity, it’s always best to create a workspace, run it at full power and open up Task Manager (on Windows) or Activity Monitor (on macOS) to see the active resource requirement of your workspace. Once you have the peak values, multiply them by 1.5 to ensure sufficient buffer for peak loads.

You can download Ctrl Engine for free and run it without a license to get an idea of the processing requirements for your project.
