I have forgotten my Ctrl Engine password, how do I recover it?

Non-Admin Accounts

If you have forgotten a Non-Admin account password on Ctrl Engine:

  • Navigate to the Ctrl Engine web interface.
  • Login to your Ctrl Engine incidence as an Admin.
  • Navigate to the Settings tab using the web interface and modify the account.

Ctrl Engine Admin account

In short, you can't change the Engine Admin password without being logged in.

We’ve built Ctrl Engine this way to stop workspaces running on long term installations being taken or modified without consent of the system owner.

If the Admin password has been forgotten, Ctrl Engine must be reset.

After resetting Engine, simply reconnect Ctrl Designer, sync your workspace and you’ll be good to go without losing any work.

Ctrl Engine Reset Process (Windows):

  • Stop the Ctrl Engine service from running by navigating to Ctrl Engine Manager and selecting Stop.
  • Quit Ctrl Engine Manager.
  • To wipe data and credentials from Engine, navigate to the directory Ctrl Engine stores its data and delete all Ctrl Engine folders apart from: C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Roaming\Ctrl Engine\session\licenses.ces
  • Navigate to this folder by logging in as an Admin on Windows then by heading to: C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Roaming\Ctrl Engine - (If it’s your first time navigating to this directory, you will likely have to click through the folder structure to get to this destination first time).
  • Open Ctrl Engine Manager and restart Ctrl Engine.
  • Set up a new Admin account.
  • Sync your workspace from Ctrl Designer to get everything back up and running.
